duo's parents were killed when he was only about six. He joined an orphan group that was lead by a kid named solo . Solo and duo became friends fast . one day solo recieved an illness and was rushed to the hospital where he died.The orphaned group was then lead by duo. He recited ,"If solo's with me than I'll be called Duo!" A church called Maxwell church adopted the group later on. All but Duo were adopted by a family. The church adopted duo . One day the church was burned down and duo fled the streets again. He stow-awayed into a ship where he met Dr. G who trained him to use the gundam deathscythe. Later duo fled into battle against OZ federalists who organized the group who killed his parents.

trowa was orphaned also at a young age. his sister was somewhere with him and she lost him! He was found by an army and was trained to be a soldier. The commander was killed sometime later and trowa went to the streets and was trained by another one of the doctors to pilot heaveyarms. He went to fight battles in the war later.

Chang was married to a chinese warrior woaman by parents choice. He was a scholor(kinda weird!) and was skilled in battle but liked to read much more. He was the only person ever to beat merian. One day she was killed by somebody attacking L5 colony and chang ended up liking her after all. He buried her in a medow on earth that he commented "was as beautiful as her". Her nickname from then on was nataku , the chinese goddess of victory. This is why he calls his gundam "Nataku".
